Bio:
Chicago area artist Jeanine Hill-Soldner was born in Quantico, Virginia and raised in a military family. Her family moved frequently which provided a wealth of images in her contsantly changing world. She showed a passionate interest in art from a young age when the young artist found solace and inspiration in her drawings. She won a drawing award at age 11 and was honored with an article in a local newspaper, and set of oil paints from her grandfather. Her serious pursuit of art began with training in an artists’ studio at age 15. Her lifelong love of art continues today with her dynamic, original representational oil paintings in a career spanning over 35 years. She has traveled the world and lived in England while pursuing independent study at Liverpool University.
Honored with awards and recognized nationally she holds a Bachelor of Art in Art Education from University of Florida and Master of Fine Art from University of Illinois. Her work exhibits widely in museums and galleries around the Chicago area and nationally. She has exhibited her work in more than 180 group shows and in numerous solo exhibits. Her work can be found in public and private collections in the US and Europe. She is founder of the seminal solo exhibitions “Portraits of American Veterans Project” and “Memories of an Era”. The combined exhibits are titled "Portraits and Memories: Legacies of Service". The paintings have exhibited extensively, including at Chicago's National Veterans Art Museum. The Artist’s Profile was featured on PBS nationwide and can be found in numerous newspaper and magazine publications. In addition to her work with, and about veterans she has several large bodies of work.
Artist Statement:
I am a representational painter living near Chicago, Illinois.. My work captures the fleeting moments of human interactions. These transitory moments are the subjects that fuel my ongoing inquiry into the visual dialogue I passionately explore in my work. I want to create the illusion of deep space by building layers of shapes, color and carefully orchestrated light and shadows. My paintings invite the viewer to explore the canvas surface and dive deep into the painting in a dance of discovery. I am inspired by the changing visual fragments of everyday life and the beauty and fragile qualities found in nature.
Painting is a singular contemplative activity providing me with the unique opportunity to explore the limitless possibilities of space and time. From the idea in my mind’s eye to the final painting, there is no end to what can be achieved with oil paint’s sensuousness richness. Painting brings me closer the deepest and most sublime moments in life. I want to create new meanings from the everyday milieu, and capture the viewer’s imagination. I find a unique visual richness in the everyday world around me, and in the people, places and events that shape our time.
